LONDON, Jan. 4. Newspapers-' regard the Spoil Valley result (q, win for Labour) as tho severest blow to the. Coalition Government since tho general election. They explain that tho remarkable growth of the Labour vote* at recent by-elections is duo to the lower; •section of middle classes, who, squeezed by taxation- and the cost of living, are transferring their votes to Labour. They are not alarmed at Labour’s policy of the nationalisation of coal mines and public services, _and of the levy on capital.
