It is rcmoured (says the Wanganui | Herald) that a proposal is being considered by the military authorities having as its effect the enlargement of group areas. If, as it is persistently rumoured the Wanganui and Palmerston North Groups are to be merged into one group, the claims of* Wanganui as headquarters for tho new .group should not be overlooked. The town is most central, and it tho largest town in tho district outside Wellington, and possesses-many other advantages which woidd make it admirably suitable for tho suggested purpose. On inquiry from Colonel C. W. Melvill, Officer Commanding tho Wellington military district, a “Standard” reporter ascertained that although tho matter of the readjusting of. groups has been discussed, there is no immediate prospect of a change. Even if tho boundaries of groups wore to be altered, Palmerston North would still bo a Group Headquarters, owing to its convenient situation as the junction of such a number of railways.
