THE PRINCE OF WALES.
PREPARATIONS FOR TOUR.
By Kleotrio Telograph.—Coi>yri?;ht .._ . Australian New Zealand Oablo Af.vx'biion. LONDON, Dec. 30. H.M.S. Renown's engines and machinery are undergoing overhaul at Portsmouth. The Prince of Wales will use the same apartments as on his trip. to Canada. The accommodation differs little from that of his fellow-officers. No structural alterations have been made. It is not likely that the Renown will be accompanied by an escort, but probably the pre-war precedent will be followed and the Channel Fleet will escort the Renown as far as Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean Fleet will take up the duties. It is likely that Captain Ernest A. Taylor, who was commander of the Renown on the'trip to Canada, will command on the Australian trip.' The Evening Standard announces unofficially that it is unlikely that the Pwnce will go direct from Australasia to India. He is expected to return first and spend at least three months in England. The suggestion that he will visit New Zealand first is based on the possibility that the Renown will use the Panama route, but that question is still undecided.
