AUSTRALASIAN MIDDLE-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. > UREN BEATS' CLABBY.

(Pes Pbksb Association.) HASTINGS. Jam 2,

Jimmy Clabby and; Tommy Uren fought last night before an Attendance of over 2000 people jit the Municipal Theatro for the middle-weight championship of Australasia, and a purse of £SOO. Tho men gave a splendid display of clean, scientific boxing, which la'sted the full 15 rounds,

The verdict was given .to Uren by the referee (Mr T. Tracey) on the narrow margin of two points.

Describing the above contest the Dominion • correspondent says:—Tho ringside weights were: Clabby list 2"lb, Uron lOsfc 91b. As the pair faced the hugo audience the American (Clabby) appeared to havo fc substantial advantage in height, roach and weight, but the early rounds quickly demonstrated how. superior science can minimise a handicap of this kind. Clabby i sa master at in-fighting, but in Uren he met more than his match on the night, and the reforoe's decision at tho close —in the Australian's favour on points —met with general approval. For every telling blow that Clabby sent home in clinches, Uren landed two or three, giving special attention to the left - cheek and ribs of his opponent. Clabby endeavoured on several occasions'to use his-length and speed to bring about a knock-out, but the marvellous footwork of Uren enabled him to avoid overy onslaught. Many dangerous looking swings wore within a hair's broadth iof roaching their destination, but 'Uron showed:no concern, and when occasion- offered retaliated with a lightning •'left','. Although'lliflcontost.was chiefly one of in-fighting, there were occasional brilliant rallies in tho open that aroused tho unstinted applause of the audionce. ■ Both contestants wore in ■ the pink of condition, Uren in particular beiug superbly fit. From, start to finish the fifteon rounds were cleanlv fought, and with tho exception' that Clabby's face and ribs showed signs of punishment, neither, contestant appeared any the worse for: the arduous experience. . ,• .
