MINISTERS* SERVICES RECOGNISED. Sir William Herries vyajs born in London in 1856, and is thirson of Mr H. C. Herries, barrister-at-law. He was 1 , educated at Eton College and Trinity Cojfego, ■ Cambridge, graduating B.A. in 1880.; f Arriving in New Zealand in 1881, ho settlei] in To Aroha district, and was elected member of the House of Reperesentativcs for Hay of Plenty in 1895, and for Tauranga, | when the boundaries were altered. Ho has represented the district continuously since;. He has also taken keen interest in | local government. He is a'Fellow of tho Geological Society cf London. His interest in: sport has always been keen, and for over .20 years he represented Auckland district lon the New Zealand Racing Conference. '.When Ml Massey was in Opposition, Mr. Hjerries was one cf the keenest critics in his,-party. When the first Massey Ministry was formed in 1912 he became Minister of Railways and Native Affairs. He relinquished •tho > former portfolio last year, and is now ; Minister of Native Affairs and of Marine;and Customs. Sir Robort Hoaton Rhodes was born at Purau, Lyttelton, on 27th > February, 1861, and was educated in New Zealand and England, graduating B.A. at Brusenose College, Oxford. He unsuccessfully. contested the Heathcote seat against Mr W. W. Tanner in 1890. lie was first rcturneid member for Ellesmere in 1899. and has represented that electorate in Parliament continuously since. He was appointed to Cabinet'in 1912, holdins tho portfolios of Postmaster-General and Public Health. He'resigned .from the Ministry on the formation of the-National Government, and went to Egypt and England as Red Cross Commissioner for New Zealand. His wholo time during the, war period was devoted to. Red Cross affairs. Ho has al- ' wava, taken a keon interest in military > affairs, and he served during the South < African war' in operations in Transvaal. Cape Colony, and Orangia frjom April to ' May, 1902/ gainingthe Queen's Medal with j four clasps. ■ The Hon* Dr Pomare, C.M.G., is the member of the-Executive Council represent- j iftg the Native race and Minister in chargo > of tho Cook Islands. He was born at j Pahou, Taranaki. in January. 1876. He was ' educated at tho Christchurch Boys' High School and Te Auto College, and graduated < M.D. at Chicago, Nineteen years ago ho was appointed a NativeTioalth officer, and in tho General Election of 1911 was returned to Parliament as tho representative of the Western Maori district. On the formation of. tho Massey Ministry in 1912 he was appointed member of the Executive ' Council, without portfolio, representing the Native race. ■ •". ' ,

Mr Frink Thomson has for many years dono valuable service to Now Zealand in the position of Ministerial private secretary. Before Mr Masscy and his Government camo into power Mr Thomson 1 ' had been assistant secretary to the lato. Mr Seddon and secretary to the Hon. R. McKenzie. In the

dischargo of his duties ho' has,always shown great courtesy, tact, and administrative ability which' is enjoyed-and deserved by very few Public servarits, and his value to the' State was naturally increased by his experiences at_ the Pcaco Conferenco with his political chief.
