INCREASED TRAFFIC RATES. By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. LONDON, Dec. 29. It has been officially stated that the increase in the English railway rates is necessary to cover the deficiency of fifty millions annually. 1 The rates on milk and agricultural produce arc unchanged, and the increase on raw materials is comparatively small. The increase on coal is twenty-five per cent. Tins means an increase in price of two .shillings per ton. The authorities hope that the increases will restore traffic that the coastal shipping has lost in war time, owing to the lowness of railway rates.
