GENERAL BIRDWOOD MAY VISIT NEW ZEALAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. Definite intimation has been received by the Prime Minister from-General Sir William Bird wood that, if possible, ho will I accept the invitation sent to him to visit i New Zealand at the conclusion of his Australian tour, but that the visit cannot be earlier than June next. On the arrival of the General at Perth Mr Massey cabled him as follows: “New Zealand joins with Australia in its hearty welcome. On liehalf of New Zealand I warmly 1 extend to 1 you a cordial invitation to visit New Zealand after the completion of your Australian engagements, and earnestly trust that , you may be able to accept. Kindly advise i probable dates if able to arrange Kia Ora!” To this Sir William Birdwood has sent the following reply: “Please ac- ; eept most grateful thanks for more than kind welcome extended to me by your Government and people, which 1 most | deeply appreciate, as J also do your very ! kind invitation to visit New Zealand, l ; According to present plans, completing ' tour of Australia on June 1. If possible ' will most gladly avail myself of your inlj citation. 1 naturally wish to see again 1 many old New Zealand comrades. Am j writing. / Kia Ora !”
