The British military authorities arrested the Bolshevik deputation lhai arrived from Odessa, in possession of documents revealing the Soviet’s preparations < for propaganda work in all neutral countries, also proving that the Soviet intended to' make Constantinople tho centre of this activity, hoping to incite the Moslem \vorld against the British. DENIKEN AND KOLTCHAK RETREATING. Australian-New Zealand Coble Association LONDON, Dec. 28, Details of Koltcbak’s and Deniken’s retreats disclose terrible hardships for the masses of tho p ople. The Bolsheviks’ wireless communique claims that the road to Irkutsk is open to the East. They have captiired the rail junction at Fastoft. which is the key point to the Ukraine: also most of the Donetz coal field, bisecting Deniken’S front. Tho Bolsheviks’ victories are undoubtedly great. Mr Wilton, telegraphing frotn Irkutsk on 15th, says that (ho sufferings of tho people are (indescribable. Whole trains have been burned by half-frozen refugees, who are now trudging in the snow, many succumbing to the cold. Food and clothing are scant, and the overthrow of Koltchak is probable. Semonof and Deniken aro_ heading a federation of autonomous Siberian States. Koltchak is surrounded by guards and is coming hero slowly, because ho will not leave the disrupted Omsk Government’s gold hoards. The Bolsheviks are advancing about 12 miles daily, but will take months to pormeato central Siberia. Tho Poles have undertaken the duties of rearguard. It is reported that owing to tho Bolsheviks’ rapid advance, tho civilians have begun to evacuate Odessa.

The Chicago Tribune’s __ Tokio correspondent interviewed Mr Kei Hara, who said that Japan would not take a single foot of Siberian territory and the moment the 'Bolshevik menace was dispelled she would withdraw every soldier, “ I give my word that rumours that Japan is secretly negotiating an alliance with Germany and Russia are wholly unfounded. Japan absolutely pledges herself to give up all troops from Shantung and retain only commercial, concessions as soon ,as peace . is signed. Japan is willing to enter a financial consortium with China, hut must insist on recognition of Japan’s special interests in .Manchuria, Japan has not thought of acquiring territory dr special concessions of any kind in Mexico.”
