CON AN DOYLE'S STORY. "FINEST HEAD OF CHRIST." ""LONDON, Dec. 16. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle writes a remarkable letter to the. Daily -Mail, describing a marvellous head of Christ, painted by Mrs Spencer, daughter-in-law of Viscountess OhurchiU. Mrs Spencer has normally no powers of artistic expression, yet she conceived and painted the head in a few hours. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle claims that the painting is a supreme example of spiritual intelligence, working through a material and mortal frame. The picture, which he says is the finest head of Christ ever conceived, was shown to a great painter in Paris, who instantly fell on his knees. "It has an inner soul, lacking in tho works of the great masters," the author declares. Viscountess Churchill has informed tho Daily Mail that her daughter-in-law has no knowledge of drawing or painting, but felt impelled to paint the picture. This i 9 now feeing exhibited in a Bond street gallpry, and is drawing curious crowds. Tho Daily Mail art critic says that the circumstances in vhich the work was done were strange, but ho thinks the picturo insipid and in-drawn.
