MANAWATU R.C. MEETING',. SECOND DAY. PRESIDENT'S lIANDICAPORATRESS. PALMERSTON STAKES-ACRE. Favoured with fino weather a largo attendance of sportsmen attended the second day's racing of the Manawatu Racing Club. Racing was again of a very interesting ord»r, the fields being large and the finishes close, whilst speculators had considerable difficulty in sorting out the winners, the first favourite only getting the verdict en one occasion. As on the first day Mr A. Keith dispatched the fields well, and the judge, Mr j; 11. Stanford, mado no mistake with his decisions. The track was ill capital order, which would account for the fast times recorded. Oratress, one of the outsioers in the President's Handicap, cut out the mile and a quarter in 2.7, Acre iho Paltnerston Stakes in 1.13 1-5, and Chimera the Awapuhi Handicap in 1.13. The booths (Mr YV. Devine), catering (Mrs Rawlins), and tea kiosk (Mrs Beange), were all in capable hands. The machine staff again had a busy time, the amount put through aggregating £56,562, as against £36139 for the second day last year, when there wore only two days' racing. Tho only accident" during the afternoon was in the- Kelvin Hack Handicap, when Fiery Lass, owned by Mr A. M. Wright, fell, and Fisher, stumbling, lost his ruler. The former had a leg broken, and had to be destroyed. Both animals were running prominently, four furlongs from home, when tho mishap occurred.
