DISASTROUS AVALANCHES.
GREAT LOSS OF LIFE FEARED. By Eleotrio telegraph.—Copyright. A.oßtrulian-New Zealand Cable Association. BERNE, Doc. 26. Terrifying avalanches fell at Davos during the height of the winter sports season. Six descended within an hour from the Schaihorn and overwhelmed a sanatorium and several largo hotels, and filling the whole of the floors with snow. Five bodies have been dug out, and it is feared that many others have been buried. Many visitors were imprisoned for hours in the upper floors, momentarily expecting the walls to collapse. The avalanches fell in the daytime, when most of the visitors wero out of doors, otherwise hundreds would have been suffocated in the bedrooms. Davos is isolated, and trains aro embedded in the snow.
