There are conflicting , reports regarding tho situation at Fiume. One states, that D'Annunzio, with a number of his supporters, including officers and Sighor Arditti, are prisoners, and that .Major Jomman and Commander Ri.'.zo favoured acceptance of the Government's proposal, and handed thoir resignations to D'Annunzio. _ A destroyer from Zara. on Tuesday delivered a communication pointing out tho gravity of Jio situation in Dalmatia, and stating that D'Annunzio's landing could not bo permitted, ROME, Dec. 26. | Tho newspaper Popolo Romano says that M. Clemenceau's speech implies that tho peace of Europe depends on a settlement of the Adriatic problem; therefore Italy must yield, but it is forgotten that the humiliation it is desired to inflict on Italy will not ensure peace, but rather aggravate the dangers of tho immediate future of Italy, .which has never renounced the Trentino or Trieste, and will never re- . nounco what she may lose to-day.
