ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE PALACE THEATRE. HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT. Most of the available seating space of the Palace Theatre was occupied last evening, when a '-programme of both, pictures and vaudeville was presented. The first portion of the evening’s entertainment consisted of a picture programme while the second part was given over to purely vaudeville items. “The Temple of Dusk,” featuring Scssue Hayakawa, occupied pride of place among the pictures. Hayakawa’s acting throughout this feature showed a high standard of histrionic ability. The theme of the story illustrated how the Japanese poet—portrayed by Hayakawa—gave his life for the sake of a child and a promise. In the second half, Silvester and Astras wore presented to the audience. Silvester is a magicianjuggler of no mean order, and the feats of mind-reading performed by Astras , were truly remarkable. In the performance of the , former artist, the tricks with a glass of water wore admirably carried out, while his exhibition of juggling deserves high praise. His representation of moustaches I have seen,” done by shadowgraph, was most amusing. Astras was introduced to the audience at the conclusion of Si vester’s performance. Her pet panther, which is claimed to be the only tamed animal ot this description extant, was chained to a ring in the centre of the stage and provided much amusement by playing with a cub lion during his mistress s seance. Ihe lady, seated on a chair on the stage, was blind f Aided by Silvester, who walked among the audience and picked out a number of indivduals whose thoughts Astras interpreted with a prophecy as to the future of the event of which the person was thinking. Altogether Astras s performance was a remarkable one which completely mystified the audience.

ROSY. When Reginald Jones (George Walsh) wept at his tough luck, the auoience at the Kosv Theatre was kept in a•continual roar of laughter. “Never Say Quit, the William Fox comedy which was shown yesterday for the first lime was the cause of it. This is a good comedy. EVERYBODY’S. A Lois Weber oroduction entitled “For Husbands Only” is being shown at Everybody’* tliis week end. Mrs Charlie Qiaplm has the principal part. Everybody s has a splendid picture for the holiday season.
