Moralists' are earnestly exercised oyer the present female fashions, basing their disapproval on the clerical denunciations of the Pope Cardinal Bourne, Cardinal Araette, and others The latest instances of what Pans calls the lowneck mania was supplied when a French priest refused to marry a bride, considering the decollettage beneath her veil was too scanty for the occasion. Dressmakers, when interviewed, declared themselves helpless. They state that certain customers never think that their .skirts are short or their bodices said : “I do not wonder that Cardinal Amette was shocked.
