BUILDING IN THE BOROUGH
INCREASED ACTIVITY SHOWN,
A statement of the building permits issued bv the Borough Council during the past twelve months indicates clearly the incvoaaod activity that has displayed rocently in building operations, notwithstanding the fact that both labour and material have been dillicult to obtain. During the past 12 months permits have been issued m the Palmerston North BoroUgh for buildings, alterations, etc., totalling £142,461. Those include permits for the erection of 83 new residences of an approximate value of £88,461, business premises, public buildings, etc. (including the Girls’ High School, one factory, Church of England Sunday School, and additions to tKo hospital) £43,400; and miscellaneous alterations and additions, £10,600. It is interesting to note that last year permits were issued to the value of £40,578 for the following:—34 new residences £26,063 two business premises £BSOO, alterations arid additions £6015. The figures for 1917 were us follows:—46 now . residences £26,290, eight business, premises, eta, £22,970. alterations and additions £7805; total, £67,065. .
