Although the -Victorian branch of the Engineers’ Institute has'notified, the shipowners that the men will' rejoin tho idle vessels to-day, the expected / settlement', owing to tho action taken in other States, has not yet-been reached. The Union Company bus definitely postponed the sailings of the-Zoongarm, Rotomahana and Waimri, for Tasmania, The position is aggravated by the cooks and pantrymen leaving the vessels on -learning that their executive had the owners' proposals. A mass meeting of marine engineers docidtxt hot to resume work but to abide by tho decision of the other bronchos. SYDNEY, Dec. 23. Forty thousand tons of shipping are idle at Sydney as tho result of the engineers’ strike. The marine cooks, butchers and bakers have declared their strike off ’and' have agreed to return on the Shipping Controller’s terras.
