JUDGE BEVAN'S EVIDENCE. By Eleotrio Telegraph.—Copyright. Australian-New. Zealand Cable Association. DARWIN, Dec. 21. Before the Commission, Judge Bevan was further lengthily questioned regarding advances of Government money on mines wherein he was interested.
!Mr Justice Ewing pointed out that witness already had admitted that the Adminis- : trator of the Territory had made advances to hirriself and others.' Judge Bevan dejnied a; suggestion by ;Mr Barrett, solicif tor, that the representative of the Mines {Department was jockeyed into relaxing the Jwhito labour regulations, and that he (would have, lost his job if he had not given the ruling he did. Judge Bevan j said he knew nothing about . what the .Mines Department did. Mr Barrett interjected: "Perhaps Mr [Gilruth looked after that!" Further: drastic questioning related to (Judge Bovan's administration of justice as ' Judge. One incident referred to was the | quashing'of a whole jury panel for al--1 leged irregularity. . ] i To Mr Barrett's question, Is it not a I fact that no jury will -convict anyone he- ! fore von?'' Judge Bevlan replied, "I have I heard that stated."
