DISAFFECTION IN PUNJAUB.
TROUBLE AT LAHORE. By Electrio Telegraph.-Copyright. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association Received December a.m. LONDON, Dec. 19. Striking details of disaffection in the Puniaub province are being published. The principal reasons for political agitation are alleged to be the high prices oi food and Other necessaries, Mahomedan unrest, public floggings and the long intervals between the arrest and trial of agitators, hundreds of whom have been gaoled. Shootings occurred in many places, especially at Lahore, where the'mob took the city the Europeans being evacuated with difficulty. Eventually the 43rd Brigade, supported by four aeroplanes, two carrying bombs, retook thecity. Tho temper of the crowd was sullen and savage. The commissioners and the military commanders reported the. shooting of Dyer at Amritsar had an instantaneous effect, disaffection rapidly declining. Tho officials admit that quasi-public fWeings have been numerous, and admit that a priest and a wedding party were flogged because the gathering numbered more than the ten permisr sible under martial law. The magistrate responsible for these floggings was dismissed. _____
