COULD SUFFER NO MORE.
A soldier'* terrible death in hospital after undergoing three operations was the subjoct of a Rochester inquest. It was stated that Private William John Rickard, Royal West Surreys, ended his life in Fort Pitt Military Hospital. Rochester, by inflicting with a razor a tcrriblo wound six inches long and three deep across the abdomen. Ifo had been in hospital since Juno 7, and had undergone throe operations for uppendi. t.'itis and intestinal trouble. At the in-' quest the medical officer stated that on the morning of his death, Rickard asked for further relief, but had to be told that nothing further could be done for him. Tho jury s verdict was suicide while temporarily insane.
