NEW MEMBERS.

Mr A. McNicol, the new member for Paliiatna, was born at Waihola, Otago, and is the son of the late Uov. John McNicol, a pioneer Presbyterian ministei of the southern province. Mr McNicol was educated in Dunedin, but having a taste for country life lie went as a youth to Kdendale, where lie worked on a dairy farm. Subsequently ho went shepherding in Otago Central, and later purchased a farm at Merton, near Dunedin. Literary pursuits attracting him, Mr McNicol subsequently joined the staff of the Oago Daily r J hues as mining reporter. He next became a reporter on the Napier Daily Telegraph, and at the inauguration of the Dannevirko livening News he was appointed sub-editor. Almost immediately after Joining the News he was appointed managing-editor and this position he has retained. He has taken a keen interest in the welfare of Dannevirko. Mr W. S. Glenn, who was elected for Rangitikei, was born at Greyinouth 40 years ago and educated in Taranaki. A noted footballer, he was a member of (ho famous “All Blacks” who toured England. On his return from this tour, he took up a hush farm up the Wanganui River. When (lie war broke out he enlisted as a private in the N.Z.E.F.. but being impatient tc got to the front, obtained leave, paid his passage to England, and a week after 'lending there, joined the Royal Field Artillerv. lie saw service in France and was ’twice gassed. Ho was discharged from the service in February of this year, being then taeling-.Vlajor, and landed in New Zealand at tin l end of last May. returning to his farm. Mr file* m is married, and his wife accompanied him to England, where she was engaged in war work until her husband's discharge from the Imperial Army. Mr W. 1). Pmvdrcll (elected for Paten) was horn at Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, in 1872, and has resided for the whole of his life between Paten, Manaia, and Unworn, where ho has fairly largo farming interests. Ho has been chairman and managing director of the Kanpokouni Dairy Company for ten years, and previously was for seven years a director. Other positions which ho holds arc as follows; Director of tho North Island Dairy Association, chairman and manager of tho Patou Farmers’ Co-operative Freoeing Company for tho last eight years, director of the Now Zealand Rennet Company, director’of tho Egmont Box Company for the past ten years, director of the Taranaki .Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Company, director'' of the Taranaki Farmers’ Cooperative Organisation Auctioneering Company, chairman (several times} of the New Zealand Choese > Producers’ Selling Committee in connection with the Imperial purchase scheme) and president of the Prohibition League in a district covering tour electorates. Mr Powdrell was the cheese representative appointed to assist tho Board of Trade in making the butterfat levy workable and equitable while the levy was in force. Ho was one, of_ the Government appointees on (ho Efficiency Board to advise an help soldieis. and is.a land valuer for the purchase of soldiers’ land in the Hawera district.
