No changes are to' bo announced in the Ministry for a week at least, and'perhaps not until alter the New 1 Year holidays. There are two vacancies to to tilled,, possibly three. Sir Wm. Frasor is to retire from the Government very soon,, and it is quite well understood. that he is to bo appointed to the Upper House. This appointment may bo announced any day now. Sir Wm. Eraser will continue in tho Minis, try until arrangements are complete-.for .the, new Ministers to take office. LABOUR'S SUCCESS IN AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 18. Tho feature of the ejection results in the Auckland district is the triplo success of the Labour Party in tho thrco contiguous electorates of Auokland Central, Auckland West, and Grey Lynn. Mr Savage's win in Auckland West was not unexpected. Mr Parry's defeat of Mr Glovor in Central, was no great surprise, but Mr Bartram's win in Grey Lynn certainly came as a surprise to most peoplo. It was. generally anticipated that tho contest would bo between Mr Fowlds and Miss Melville, and the result in this case upset many calculations. Those three, wins are marked ovidonco of the im- £ roved organisation on tho part of the labour Party. My Myers' narrow escape from defeat by Mr Clutha Mackenzie, as compared with his previous largo majoritics, is perhaps the only other noteworthy feature of tho voting in this part of tho Dominion. REV. HOWARD ELLIOTT'S VIEWS. Per Press Association. INVEROARGILL, Dec 18. Rev. Howard Elliott, interviewed, said tho P.P.A. was delighted with the results. Tho extent of tho Protestant influenco on the polling was a revelation to many sceptics of the strength and discipline of the organisation. Tho groat triumph of Protestantism in Awarua provided a result as startling in Southland as it was throughout the Dominion. The poll had shown that if Protestants stand together and vote solidly to maintain their traditions, privileges, institutions and liberty, the majority at present in tho House would carry the confidence of Protestants. Received December 19, 11.30 a.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 19. The . Herald, commenting on the" New Zealand elections, says: "On general principles wo might have expected a pronounced swing of the political pendulum in favour of the more Radical partios at the elections held since the war, but the. ex-i pected has not happened. Everywhere tho voter has been cautious and shown that he is not prepared to commit his destinies to the tender mercies of ithe extremists. The latest illustration conies from NeW Zealand where tho Reform Party, the most conservative of tho three New Zealand parties, has reen returned with-ia comfortable majority at an election which was fought purely on tho parties' respective policies. .. tii ■'•« : - ;'•*' ',
