BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The ordinary meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held in the Institute on Friday, 12th December. Present — His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Gardner, Kelly, Spencer, Scott, Fargher and McMillan. A communication was received from Rev, Wheeldon, asking that the Council should issue licenses to graze horses and cows on the borough roads. After spirited discussion the Council decided not to accede to the request. The by-law charging £5 for taxi licenses was suspended, and £1 substituted in place thereof. A meeting is to he hold on 9th January to decide what day shall be the statutory half-holiday for the coming year. The next meeting of the Council is to bo held on the 9th January. Accounts totalling £29 7s 3d tVcro passed for payment. The Council also decided that all rates must be paid by 20th December. The many friends of Mr O. P. Petersen will bo sorry to hear that ho passed quietly away on Sunday morning after a long and painful illness. Shannon cricket team visited Whitnnni on Sunday and won after a keenly contested game by twenty-four runs.
