MR MASSEY OPTIMISTIC.
ENTHUSIASTIC MEETINGS IN
HAWKE’S BAY.
The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, passed through Palmerston North this morning after a strenuous two days of speech making and travelling throughout Hawke’s Bay. He left Hastings this morning by motor car at a quarter to six o’clock and on arrival in Palmerston North boarded the Main Trunk express and proceeded to Wellington. Looking very sunburnt as a result of his travelling, Mr Massey, when approached by a “Standard” reporter, said that wherever ho had spoken his reception had been most gratifying. The result of the Maori election in having returned three Reform candidates out of the four seats contested was highly-pleasing. The Pahiatim seat was, ho considered, absolutely certain to go to the new Reform candidate, Mr A. McNicol. When the roll was called after the election ho felt confident that the Reform Party would continue in office with a good working majority.
