CLAIM FOR DAMAGES.

ECHO OF A MOTOR SMASH

As the result of a collision which oc - curred between a motor car ami a motor cycle on the Foxton Lino on August 31 last, two claims for damages were brought before Mr J. L, Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The driver of the car (George H. Hodd), who was the defendant in both cases, had been convicted for negligent driving after the smash. The claimants were Margaret Lundio and Jack McSweeney, the former haying been riding on the roar of the bicycle. She claimed £ls 14s (xl as payment for medical foes and reparation lor damage to clothes and loss occasioned by enforced absence from work. The case was chiefly confined to the hearing of expert evidence as to the cost of repairs and assessment of damage. On consideration of the facts submitted His Worship fixed the damages at £lO and judgment for the plaintiff, Miss Lundie, was entered accordingly with costs against the defendant amounting to £2 2s. The other plaintiff, J. McSweeney. claimed the sum of £74 17s 6d, made up of damages to the bicycle and clothing, medical fees and loss of wages. _ In this case His Worship intimated that he would reserve his decision. Mr H. 11. Cooper appeared for the plaintiff in both cases and Mr A. M. Ongloy for the defendant.
