BETTER SHIPPING FACILITIES WANTED.
(Peb Pbess Association.) DUNEDIN. Noy. 20. A eonforenee of Dunedin public bodies last night expressed dissatisfaction witli tin 1 shipping facilities. Resolutions were passed asking; that the continuation ol the renewal of the Vancouver and ’Frisco mail contracts ho a flat rate to and from the four main ports ol New Zealand; that the Canadian Government he urged when arranging a steamer service to New Zealand to take into consideration making Dunedin a main port or one of the ports of call ; that the Merchant Shipping Companies of Los Angelos hj ewritten to similarly; that the shipping companies he earnestly recommended to take immediate steps to re-establish regular steam services between Melbourne and Sydney and Dunedin and Bluff; that delegates ho requested to bring before their respective bodies the question of the Government owning and controlling a line of steamers for the transport of goods in the New Zealand trade.
