BOLSHEVIK PROPAGANDIST FINED.

Peter Simonoff, representing the Russian Bolsheviks, has been fined £IOO on two charges of addressing meetings in contravention of the War Precautions Act. The prosecution alleged that Simonoff deliberately attempted to institute a campaign analagous to the Bolshevik agitation in Russia, Peter Simonoff, who claims to be the representative in Russia of the Bolshevik Government of Russia, wes first before the Court in Sydney on November 5 on two charges—that, being- an alien, ho addressed meetings at Sydney on October 16 and 20, in contravention of the War Precautions Act, . . Simonoff, who was described as a journalist, is said to be 35 years of age. Sergeant Spyer, in asking for a remand, said it was alleged that Simonoff addressed meetings in Sydney. He then went to Brisbane, where he was served with a notice prohibiting him from addressing a, meeting. Later he left for Melbourne, where ho was arrested. "I hope," he added, "the bail would not be prohibitive. I can get a further undertaking that ho will not address meetings." The Magistrate allowed bail—Simonoff in £250, with one surety of £250, or two in £125. Simonoff was then removed to the cells. He was followed on the way by Mr Brookfield, M.L.A., who bailed him out.
