TO DAY’S A I* DEALS. Tin* hearing of appeal.-, was continued before the First Wellington .Military Service Board to-day. Capt, McDonnell represented the Defence Department. 1U SIXKSS i-TKAFS APPEAL. Me, !!, Palmer appealed on behalf of William Del] O’Callaghan, business manager, Palmerston North (Mr Oakley). Appellant stated that since the death of her husband, while on active service in 1915, Mr O’Callaghan had managed the business. Endeavours had been made to dispose of it. but as the linn laid been re fused a lease of the property on which the premises were situated, it had hi eu found impossible to sell the business. Mr O'Callaghan was sole manager and auctioneer, and had proved exceptionally capable. William Hell O'Ciiilaghan gave evidence in connection with the business transactions of the lirm. The firm had advertised for a manager, but only two replies were received, and both applicants wore unsuitable. Decision was reserved sine die. OTHER APPEALS.

Arthur John Lobb, farmer, Fcilding (Mr Onglcy). This was an adjourned appeal. Appellant stated that his position was the same as at his last appearance before the Board.

J. If. f-obb, father of appellant, stated he was managing two farms in Hawke’s Bay, aggregating 900 acres. These farms carried 200 bullocks, and 70 sheep. On this .we nut witness would not he able to take <iv- r his soil’s farm.—A further hearing of the appeal was adjourned to next sitting. Joseph Howl, dairy fanner, Glen Oroua, and William 11. J, lloswcll, farm assistant, Glen Oroua, had their appeals adjourned till Fridas’.

Edward George Rollo, milk tester, Palmerston North.—This appeal was adjourned to next sitting of the Board. Charles Eustace, engine driver, Keilding, (employer’s appeal).—The appeal was adjourned for further hearing fill November sitting. Harold Ray Thorburn, tailor, Palmerston North. Appellant stated that since his last appearance before the Board he had been in negotiation with prospective buyers to take over his busine.-s, but the sales had fallen through. The- partner in the business had also been called up and passed for camp. Further time was asked for to dispose of llio business. —The appeal was adjourned to November sitting. The appeals of John Henry Hunter, farmer, Levin, anti Randal O. Anderson, farmer, llalcombo, were adjourned to Friday. The. appeal of John _ William Sporlo, butcher, Ecilding, was dismissed, leave being granted to November. Arthur Ernest Eglinlon, farmer, Sanson, had a further hearing of his appeal adjourned fo the November sitting of tho Board.

There* was no appearance of Stanley Erio Whitehead, clerk, Palmerston North, and (•ho appeal was dismissed. David Buick, farmer, Palmerston North (Mr Oakley), whose appeal wait adjourned front the July sitting, stated that his position was the same as at his last appearance before the Board. —Decision was reserved. William Herbert Pink, farmer, Oban, had a further hearing of his appeal adjourned to Friday. The appeal of William John Woollctt, draper, Palmerston North, was dismissed, there being no appearance of appellant. In flic appeal of Thomas Bertram Cheetham, farmer, Binmytliorpe, the. Board reserved its decision.

Oregon’ Gerald Kelly, motor agent. Shannon, who was grunted leave at. last sitting of the Board in order to dispose of his business, stated that lie had made every endeavour to sell or to obtain a manager, but had so far been unsuccessful. One intending buyer had recently been called up and passed fit for service.—-The appeal was dismissed, leave being granted to January.
