I "(ho Palmerston North Amateur Swimming Club applied for the use of the bath to bold three races for ladies and gentlemen ini \\ odnosday afternoon (to-day).—On. the motion of Cr Bennett, the application was granted. Dr. Whitaker wrote to Cr, Bennett, chairman of tho Baths Committee, making u. complaint as to the conduct of some boys in the swimming bath. He stated that bis boy, aged seven years, and who cannot swim, came home stating that he had -boon pushed info the water Whcro it. As five feel deep. The attendant had sent tho boy home who had been the culprit, and told him not to como again. The writer also spoke of the danger caused by boys walking along the top of the wall of the bath.— Tim letter was received. 'C H. A letter was received front Mr J. Borin tin, secretary of the Manawatu Patriotic Society, applying for tho use of the Municipal Hall free of charge for a period of about eight weeks, from the beginning of February, for the purpose of entertainment, rehearsals in connection with tho campaign to raise money, for the Sick and Wounded Fund.—The. Mayor explained that an effort was being made by the Patriotic Society to raise £20,000. They thought the Council might grant; the free use of the hall as a donation. The ball was engaged on March 7th, and the Society would, of course, have to ieav.t the. hall on that da to.—On Cr. Broad’s motion, the application was granted, Mr A. Grover applied for a refund of 14 i hi, rates alleged to have been wrongfully ckalrgod.—The town dork said a mistake had been made by the Valuation Department, and it was decided to make a refund for the amount. WORKS COMMITTEE.

Tin - report was adopted as follows; The following works have been earned out in connection villi the instruc turns issued by the Council on the 30th January:—Water connection for Post and Telegraph Department on sections 715. 717; water service to Co.lege street school. Water; Mr Hepvvorths men are laying water mains in Manson and Knowlesstreets. Sewerage.: Mr Walker’s men arc making a stall in Florence Avenue, Tar gang: 11k far gang arc top-dressing Bourke and Campbell streets, and a start has been made, with Marne, street: also a. start was made to far spray the macadam in Church street. Footway formation in Edgewun; read is in progress. The crop ot oats on the Borough reserve at the .stables Juts, been harvested and stacked. The following buildings have been inspected and found to I*> in accord widt the Borough by-laws:—Wilt-shire, Broad street: Jorgenson, Grey; street; Petersen. Fealhcrstou street; Rolfe, Car. roll street; Trevor Bros.. Armstrong street ; Mrs Crook. College street.
