The Receiver of Land Revenue vvroto ■nclosing a schedule of ordinary thirds acsrued to September 30. 1917, lo (he amount: >f £lOl 3s "7d, and also stated that hypothecated thirds amounting to £22 7s 7d had been lodged to the Council's credit.—Aliolalion to bo prepared by tho engineer and ,oi warded to the Department. The South British Insurance Company idvised that tho Council should keep at. least one man covered throughout the year for quarry work.—The clerk was instructed iccordingly. 'l'll,- director of technical education at Apiti applied for the usual grant passed by the Council. —Received. M. supervisor of tho Pohangina. Technical School, wrote enclosing a resume if the past year's operations ;.t tho school. I'llis stated that classes in advanced needlevork, dressmaking, cookery, and agrictilure were making good progress, but owing l .;> lack of instructors through enlistment or active service, ii was regretted that woodwork classes for boys and adults had to be abandoned in the. meantime, but it vas anticipated that arrangements would shortly be made so that the class might )c brought into operation again next year. Sinclair n ported :In the A wall on tiding 1 repairs have been carried out ■it Hans' Smith's bridge, and the bridge (vet- the T< Awe-o-tc-Atua has been coyred with new running planks. About 700i't ,)!' good hardwood timber has been recovered from the old slip at the Pohangina bridge. In the Coal Creek riding- metal has been put on tho road where required, and instructions have been issued to remove tho debris from the London's ford bridge. in .he Mungaono riding private learns: are now repairing the Junction road. A serious washout had occurred at Southee'o road on the Finnis road, and teams were at present attending lo this mutter. Jn tho Maugapikopiko filling the Council's teams hod almost completed the metalling 1 , and 1000 vards of metal had been put on the Apiti-Nbrsewood road. In the Pohangina tiding the motail on Duxfield's hill had been raked in. The To Awa road had been metalled and a star! made, with the concrete culvert on this road. A considerable amount of metal was required in tho famaki tilling, the Takapari toad being .till in a bad state. Tie- large culvert near the I'iripiri I,ridge had partly collapsed, and repairs would be done as soon as possible. The sum of £ls had been spent on the Opiiwe loud. A roadman was wanted for this riding. With reference to general matters, the engineer stated that 1000 pinus insignus trees had been planted on the reserve near the Pohangina bridge. The quoiion of a readjustment of tho cost of protection and other works from the foot of Holly's hill to the Pohangina- bridge should be considered by the Council, with a, view to more equitable adjustment. Tho engineer was instructed to attend to tho necessary repairs to Roberts' bridge, A'wahou rid.ing, and to put on men to repair washouts on roads in Mangaone riding. The chairman leported that, a culvert was required on Duxfield's hill road, and ;t was. decided that the engineer attend to same. The engineer was em]lowered to engaga 1 a roadman for Tamuki riding. RESOLUTIONS. On the motion ol Cr. Port, ii was resolved that the clerk be instructed to obtain tenders for tin replating of dog collars and the supply of 500 collar-, for the year 191.8. The chairman moved, and it was carried. that the engitteere be instructed to prepare an estimate of tho cost of the new bridges and culverts in fcrro-concrote required in each riding, for the purpose of raking a loan for such work. It was resolved, on the chairman's motion, tliat the engineer 1 be instructed _ to prepare- an estimate of the cost of buildings required in the county for employees. Also cost of land required for building sites, and that the estimates of above be. mad.- out. with a view to raising a loan for said works. Cr. Beetham moved: That a machinery maintenance account bo opened, to which is charged the maintenance of the Council's machinery, tho cost, ot such maintenance t-o bo born by (he ridings using the machinery in valuation proportion. The motion was carried. The. clerk wa.s instructed to cull applications for tiie position of dog tax collector for the year 1918. TREASURER'S REPORT. The treasurer (Mr Lamb) reported that the bank balances to November 10 were as under:—County fund account, dr. £255 5s 4d; No. 1 loan account, cr. £46 10s sd; cemetery account, dr. £ll 14s lid. The following collections have been made during the month:—Rates: Awahou Riding £197 Is, Coal Creek riding; £74 ss. 6d, Mangaone Riding £235 15s sd, Mangapikopikp riding. £265 16s sd, Pohangina riding £l6O 13s lCd, Tamaki tiding £522 10s 6d. Umutoi riding £596 4s lOd; total. £2052 7s 6d. Other receipts were: Rent, of reserves £63 12s, rent of residence and cottage £6 4s 6d, driving fees £2 9s, sundries 18s 9d; a grand total of £2125 lis 9d. Accounts totalling £963 8s 9d were submitted for payment.
