Mr Russell and Messrs Bn-lt and Hocking were the tendcrers, and on the motion of Cr. Linklater that of Mr Russell was accepted. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer (Mr A. M. Wright) re ported as follows: Mangaonc Riding. —Taonui Feilding road: The whole length of thits road between Taonui level-crossing and Oroua river, about 142 chains, has been scarified, trimmed into shape, and rolled down again, a small amount of metal being used for patching where required, Cameron's line: fhe contract for carting out metal for repairing the lower endo I this road has been completed, 209 cubic yards being delivered. Metal has also been carted for patching the upper end of this road. Grading: The 'ruder was employed for a few days trimming metal into shape on Cameron's, Kai Iwi and Roberts' line. Besides the above pairing the lower end of this road luis been employed tarting out metal for patching on to different roads throughout the riding. Other work carried out lias been clearing of watcrtables and drains, Napier road filling: During the month tenders were invited for carting of Idling and metal required for raising of road near Stoney Creek. These can be considered by your Council .it, its meeting. Rangitikei line: Work _ carried out on this road ha.; con-isted mainly in patching, the total expenditure for tne month amounting to about- £67. During the coming month it is proposed to lightly removal a. short, length of this'road between the llorough boundary and Mangaonc bridge, the metal being already delivered. Taonui Riding. —Kairanga-Biuinythorpe road : The contract- for carting out metal For use on this road has been completed, the total amount delivered being 801 cubic yards. This allowed of only about 9 cubic yards per chain being used, which I am afraid under present traffic conditions will not stand for very long. Other work earned out on this road lias been the grubbing out of the fescue grass, which is'encroaching on formation rather badly- in places. Longburn-Rongotea road: Two new culvcrU have been put in on this road unci drains cut to inlets. A number of old stumps have been removed from formation throughout the whole length of the road, the expenditure on this road being £8 16s. An average l of nearly two team.-, have also been employed in carting out patching metal, the expenditure for (he month under this head being'- £46. i thin!; your Council will have to consider rcmetalling a considerable length if this road next year, as a great portion of it- is now very little better than a. clay road. Foxton line: The only work carried out on this road during the month ha-. Ix-en patching of metal, the expenditure of this work being about £l9. Earthworks: A length of the Fitzherbert, Fast road, near junction with Tiritea road, has been widened, the work being carried out by our own •:ien. A point on the Fitzherbert West road, near Kecblc's bridge, has been cut oil" and filling at approach to bridge widened.
