Miss M. 'Paul applied for permission to rent the Coronation Hall at Terrace End lor the purpose of showing pictures .--Referred to the Opera House Committee, ami Miss Paul to confer rit'li the Engineer regarding her retirements at the hall.

' Cr. Broad questioned tho Mayor's i-Clioii iii permit ting I lie Medical Board lo Lave the use of the Opera House for medical examinations without consulting the Opera House Committee. The Committee should have been consulted, and the Mayor had exceeded his duty. The Mayor explained that the Opera House.,was urgently required, and he had granted its xise, and it was his intention to have reported the matter to the Opera House Committee. ■ On Cr. Rolfe's motion, tho Mayors action was confirmed. Mr W. H. Smith acknowledged with thanks receipt of the Councils message of sympathy in the loss of his son at the front.—Received. Dv. Watt, District Health Officer, notified that a- building at Apiti, occupied by J. Beard, and owned by .1. J. Hilts, 61 Cuba street. Palmerston, was in ;.n insanitary condition, and directed fhat certain repairs .should be carried out.—lt was decided that the- owner of the property be served with, notice that the repair': referred to lie carried out.

Mr A. E. M'nnsfoi'd, seen!arc St. Peter's Church Commit toe, Terrace End. drew attention to the condition of the approach to the footway in front of the church, and asked that it be remedied.—On the motion of Cw Broad, it was. deckled to have the work carriedout, the mover suiting that 'such -work should be tloue out of consideration of people attending elm relies on Sunday evenings.

The Live Steele Auctioneers' Association wrote agreeing to the surrender of the lease of borough property in Eitzberbert street.—Referred to Borough Solicitor.

Mrs K. Ropsiter, Dannevirke, wrote in reply to the Council's request that she should cut the hedge round her property af the corner or Linton and Eer-

jptson .streets to a height of 4ft Gin. The writer considered that this would ruin the hedge, which was a boon to pedestrians as well as occupiers of the sections "when a southerly wind was blowing.

The. Municipal Band applied for its half-yearly portion of the Council's subsidy, £so.—Agreed to. the Band to bo asked to supply list of engagements fulfilled with- the'dates. Mr. J. A. Carson, Carrol! street, wrote thanking the Mayor. Councillors ;md borough staff for their assistance during the erection of the Campbell .Street School baths.—Received. Dr. Watt, District Health Officer. wrote Unit n certificate for structural repairs had been issued in regard to th<i dwelling occupied by Chinese. No. HO Main street, and owned bv Mr I'\ If. SWIMMING BATH COMMITTEE. The Bath and Lavatories Committee met on Oetobei 19. it was resolved-. To. open the two conveniences and resi room during Show Week;, to request tho Engineer to provide sufficient seats for (lie rest room; to lay on the gas to the rest room and both conveniences; to place thp doors in position at the two convenience.-, if same are available; to engage a woman for Show Week at i'2 for the week for the purpose of looking after the ladies' conveniences and rest room. At a subsequent meeting A. Lanibarth was api>ointcdcaretaker oi the men's conveniences at L"_* 10s per week, and Mrs Lewis to bo caretaker of the ladies' conveniences and rest room at £2 per week".

PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. A meeting of the above Committee -wa.s held on Friday. By request Messrs Frost, Williams and Fen noil waited on the Council in connection with the position of assistant engineer, and after conferring with the three gentlemen, if was resolved to appoint Mr Frost to "the position, and that he be asked to commence his duties on December Ist. 1917. The question of finding other .•mploymem for Mr Cooksloy wa.s deferred till Tuesday, November 6. Resolved, to purchase a Ford car, fully equipped, and that the Engineer inspect the Ford car owned by Mr Dtlks. '1 he following lenders were received for tlio supply of boulders to the, crusher: V. Guigan, 5« per yard, and' John Lane, 4s 5d per yard. It was decided to accept the latter tender, ft was resolved to prant Mr Coulan, slaughterman at the abattoirs, a week's holiday, as

In connection with tlie animal holidays granted to borough employees, it was resolved that the heads of departments he inFormed that all employees of the Council are entitled to fourteen days' holiday annually, such days to include .statutory holidays under the awards and special days, such holidays to be given when convenient, to the departments. This applies to employees who have been at least two years in the Council's employ. HEALTH COMMITTEE. A meeting of the above committee was held on Tuesday, November 6. The inspector's report was read and discussed. It was resolved to instruct, the engineer to inierviow Mr Pemixsy with a view of gettimrhini to pnrchasb spoil for the purpose of filling in that portion of Plague Creek which passes through the property of the Standard Brewery.
