LADS FROM LANCASHIRE.
MARCH II MILES TO FIGHT. “TERRIERS” ’OVERRUN OBJECTIVES. LONDON, Oct. 11. Mr Beach Thomas (Daily Mail) writes: “The battle of Poelcapello will always be famous for the grit of the Lancashire*. Marching to the attack they endured super-human trials. Shells rattled on the fallen rafters and the dust of tho murdered villages they traversed. Shrapnel clattered on the roads. At nightfall they crossed tho Yser Canal. They marched miles over country without form and without feature. lighted only by gun flashes. Tho night was as dark as pitch, and no lights could be shown. The raou stumbled through infinite tangles in this sinister country. They fell foul of shell holes and friends pulled them out-. It was impossible to get food, drink, or rest, otherwise they would have been, late for the battle. They marched thus for 11 hours, and arrived on time. Despite their exhaustion they went over with the rest, fought a great battle, and won their objectives, notwithstanding all obstacles.
