GALLANT GEAKE.
HEROISM IN BURNING BUILDING. LONDON, Oct. 14. Lieutenant W. Goake, a New South Wales railway engineer, who was lent by the A.I.F. to the Munitions and Inventions Department, heroically tried to rescue a soldier from a burning building. The jury added a rider that he showed conspicuous gallantry by entering the building when the fire, which was amongst the explosives, was at its wdrst. Goalee’s inventions have proved most valuable. Though suffering from shock ho declined to lay up, and the day following the fire was giving a demonstration of an invention. His hands shook and an explosion resulted, severely hurting his fingers. Otherwise Geako was not injured. Ho is now in hospital, and is progressing satisfactorily.
