COST OF LIVING.
(Pee Press Association.) INVERCARGILL Nov. 2. In response to a request from the District Labour Council, the Mayor convened a public meeting, which was attended by about .it hundred people to-night, to discuss the ; increase in the cost of living. A resolution | was carried that the meeting views with alarm the continued increase in the cost of living, which is a national calamity, making j for the inefficiency and physical degenera- , tion of the present and future generations , of workers, and calling upon the Government to make reductions in order that the efficiency of the workers and rising generation may be assured and maintained NAPIER. Nov. 2. I At a wiry large meeting of the Napier . branch of (he Amalgamated Society of Railwal Servants, hold in the Library to-night, the following resolutions were passed; (1) Thai this meeting desires_ to protest I against the Government’s inability to deal (with the cost of living question; and (2) | lakes strong exception to the discrimination I shown in granting Is per day war bonus to married men only, and is not prepared to accept less than the original demand of 2s per day increase in-wages to all railway men in the Second Division of the service from ! April. 1917.
