THE FIGHTING IN FLANDERS.
GENERAL HAIG’S REPORT. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. LONDON. Nov 1. Sir Douglas Haig reports; Local fighting tonic place to-day in the neighbourhood of the Yprcs-Stadcn railway, whore wo slightly improved our lino north of Staffords. This afternoon wo made a successful raid north-eastward of Loos, inflneting losses. Our casualties wore light. O.ur artillery is active and made a number ol destructive bombardments of hostile positions and batteries. Our bombing squadrons in the night time dropped two toils of explosives on Roulers and Inglomunster stations, and on moving trains and on billots, and attacked the steel works and the stations at Volklinger, Germany, with excellent results. Direct hits were made on a furnace and power-house and a train. The weather was brilliantly line at the outset, but turned later to rain and snow. One machine has not returned.
