Word has been received bv Mr W. Mundy, of Palmerston, of the death of his brother, Rifleman 11. R. Mundy. The deceased soldier enlisted at, Hamilton. Among the decorations bestowed by the King at Buckingham Palace in September wag a Military Cross to Captain Wm. C. Ilartgil), R.A.M.C., of Dannevirke. A. cable message received from London today says that Anthony Readle, SecondLieutenant in the Devons, late of Ashburion. has been killed in action.

Cable advice lias been received by .Mr John Svensen, of Whakaronga, thijt his son, Rflm. J. A. Svensen, was wounded in the left thigh on October 12th, and has been admitted to hospital. -Mr Scott-Colvillo was in Palmerston yesterday arranging for the appearance' of Messrs J. and X. Tait's "Turn-to-tho-Right" Company at the Opera House on Friday evening next.

Word has been received that Rifleman I). M. Wighton, who went away with the 11th Reinforcements, has been killed in action. Rflm. Wighton was a brother of Mr A. M. Wighton, of Scandia street, for whom much sympathy will be felt. Mrs J. Kitchen, of Manson street, has received cable advice that her son, Rifleman Athol Kitchen, was killed in action on October 12th. Deceased was a member of the 18th Reinforcements, and was 23 years of age.

Corporal W. Oldham, who is the holder of a Military Modal, and who was recently invalided to New Zealand, is visiting his mother, Mm Paltridge, of Pitt street. Corporal Oldham took part in the heavy fighting in the early part of the year, and was severely wounded in the head Sergt.-Major Capp, who lias been on tho instructional stuff at the Awapuni Camp for some considerable time, and who shortly goes on active service, was presented with a leather hold-all at the social in the Empire Hall last evening by members of the instructional stall' and members of the M.C. The presentation was made by .Sergt.-Major Ilesp, who expressed the good wishes of the donors.

The toll of war has claimed another promising life in Sergt.-Major James Carmod}', son of Mr J. Cannody, of Makerua. The deceased, who was 28 years of ago, was born in Palmorsfcon North, his father being a well-known contractor here over 20 years ago. After receiving liis primary education at the Convent school, young Cannody went on to St. Patrick's College, _ Wellington, where ho passed his civil service, matriculation, and knowledge and medical preliminary examinations. After leaving college, he adopted the teaching profession, and at the time of his enlistment was teaching at Huntly, in the Waikato. lie sailed with E Company, 23rd Reinforcements, and during the voyage to England was one of the editors of Tikj Talk, his troopship -magazine, one of the brightest, publications of its kind yet produced. Sergt.Major Carmcdy's scholarly attainments greatly assisted towards the success of the paper, one of his pieces being a. fine series of verses entitled, "Mother,' 1 Mr Carmody has three other sons on service.
