OCTOBER WEATHER.
Rain fell on 17 days during October, In a note on the meteorological conditions of the month, Mr T. R. Moore, of Terrace End, says:—The weather for October, which corresponds to April in "Britain, lias been varied and most disappointing. It was to be expected that after the wretched weather experienced in September, an improvment might, take place, but it was not to be. Spring gales, due this time of the year, did not forget to arrive, and in full force, West and south and south-oast gales came and did a lot of damage to fruit blossoms, but were soothed by warm showers that came after the howling gales. There were four frosts, three of them rather severe for this time of the year, but, not. much' harm was done, except that the early potato '.eaves were blackened a little. Showers have been very persistent, but 59 points on the 31st was the heaviest. The growth of grass and weeds ha> been wonderful, owing to the warm rain and hot, muggy days, and yet we had the weather of four seasons in one day. Tim thermometer has been up to 7-1 ami down to 36 in the shade. The barometer showed very little variation, 30.3 A to 29.5. lain fell on 17 days for 3.85 inches, a.s against 1.96 in October last year. Averagetemperature for the month was 57.14.31. The following is the detailed rainfall recorded for the past month:—October 2nd 05 points; 3rd, .31; 7th. .23; 9th. .11; 10th. .50; 11th, .07; lot 1 ' .33; 20th, .02; 21st, .0-1; 22ud. .30; ?/ .12; 25th, 39; 26th. .11; 27th, .35: Zc .02; 30th, .31 ; 31st, .59; total, 3 inches ... oints.
