The fall of Udine wifi inevitably cut the railway and road communications of the Garnic and Carso armies. The principal difficulty of the Tagliamcnto line will be the , shortage of artillery. Much depends upon the real strength of the Austro-Germans. There is good reason to believe that the number of Germans participating is exaggerated, and arc probably limited to six divisions. The Tagliamento plains are widely flooded, and it is hoped the AustroGerman effort may bo expended by the time the river is reached. The Echo do Paris’s .Rome correspondent says: The Austro-Gorman losses aro estimated at 12,000. Their booty was scanty, the Italians being able to withdraw most of their heavy artillery. The newspapers point out that the Aus-tro-Gorman offensive is really aimed against the entire Entente, and that the . whole destinies of the war will bo coinpromised if the Central Powers prevail.
