SUSPECTED HUN AGENT COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association (Phu Press Association.) (Bt Electric Trlegraph—Copyright.) Received October 30, 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 51. Harold Batten, charged as cabled on October 17, has been committed for trial. The police produced a number of extraordinary letters referring to the sinking of .ships falsifying discharges. [Batten was charged in connection with a mysterious fire that occurred on a steamer lying at Miller’s Point, with forging a seaman’s discharge certificate. When ho was arrested the police found a quantity of gelignite, dynamite, detonators and fuses, as well as correspondence relating to explosions on ships in his possession.] Received October 31, 9.0 a.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 31. A fire destroyed Barclay and Co.’s box factory at Loichardt. The damage is estimated at £IO,OOO.
