(From Our Own Correspondent.) The social and dance held by the cadets on Saturday evening was a high success, and the fund tar shooting trophies will be considerably augmented. Air S. Oliver curried out the duties of MX’., and the niu.-ie was supplied by Air J. Small, and Mr llavil! played several extras. During the evening a number of items were given by Miss Giorgi, Messrs Longworth, Oliver, and others, and a committee of ladies headed by Aliss Piercy, provided excellent refreshments.

Mr and Mrs John McLeod, recently returned from their honeymoon, entertained some thirty or forty visitors, who put in an appearance at their home on Saturday evening to welcome thorn in the timehonoured fashion. A very pleasant time was spent with songs, recitations, and refreshments. Private Fitzherbert, who returned on the last hospital ship, i< on a visit hero. The mild rains of late have made a considerable improvement in the pastures, and the milk supply is on the increase. Now the Government has fixed the price of cheese the dairy farmers should experience a very satisfactory season. The nominations received for the local races, although a goodly number, are slightly loss than last year. Some difficulty is being experienced with the Railway Department over the train service for race day, which makes folk wonder why the Government sanctions race meetings and draws all jtossiblo revenue from them, whilst providing the poorest possible railway facilities.
