Miss McLagan, matron of thp Palmers-toa Hospital, is away on her annual vacation. Gunner R. P. Withell, who has been awarded the Military Medal. «aF, prior to joining the forces, a member of the New Zealand Times literary staff. A casualty list of New Zea.landers with' overseas forces reports Major R. A. Wilson, son of Sir Jaincs G. Wilson, of Bulls, aa having returned to duty. Private Cobbe, a Main liody man. and who enlisted from Kumeroa. has been killed in action. His mother resides in tlio Otaki district. The casualty list issued last night contains the namo of Pvt. A. Kcrsel, son of Mr J. Kersel, of Palmerston. This L-> tlia second occasion on which Pvt. Kersel liaa been mentioned, he having been gasaed in a. previous action. Mr Duncan Bell, of Raurnai, whoso son, Pvt. A. Pell, was wounded in the recent lighting of the Abraham Heights, has- received further advice that his son had been admitted to a hospital in France, suffering from a gunshot wound in the right foot. Mr Donald Wilson, son of Mr George Wilson, of Brougham street. Wellington, who has been serving with the R.A.M.C. at the front in Mesopotamia, has arrived in Wellington. He lias served three years in the Army, having joined up with the Forces in the earliest stages of the. war. An Auckland Press Association message states that the Rev. Father Michael Tormey, priest in charge of the Roman Catholic Church at EJlerslie, died suddenly in the street this morning from heart failure. The rev. gentleman was walking rapidly uphill when he. collapsed, dying immediately. Mr J. R. Jack, of Scandia street, lias received advice that Private John Cairns, who enlisted with the 13th Reinforcements, and was previously twice wounded, had made the supreme sacrifice. Pvt. Cairns died of wounds on October 23rd, having been wounded on three different occasions altogether. Pvt. Cairns resided with Mr Jack for some fcinme prior to bis enlistment. Pvt. Francis Jack fell in action on September 15. 1916, and Pvt. Alex. Jack returned homo on September 29th. The death occurred last evening at Pahiatua of Mrs John Vile, mother of Mr Henry Vile, of Palmerston North. 1 h-> deceased lady, who had attained the advanced age of 100 years, was a colonist of many years standing.
