PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the. Patriotic Society was held yesterday, Mr J. A. Nash (chairman) presiding. Apologies were received from Messrs 11. Haycock, K. 11. Crabb, Strang and Capt. Preece. CORRESPONDENCE. From .Mis Waters and A. Ony, thanking Society lor letters of sympathy. From the New Zealand branch of the Red Cross Society acknowledging with thanks the Society's donation <n ;U2OO to "Our l);t.v" appeal. From Ashhurst Patriotic Society forwarding JL'.'i2 LOs from Ladies' bowing Guild. —Letter of thanks to be sent, From secretary ol Mayoress' Patriotic Committee asking for donation to Ladj Liverpool's Fund lor Etrambiers refugees. In connection with the above the Chairman stated that as the, exact location of Etrambiers was not known, he telegraphed the Minister-ol Defence for information, and received the following reply: "Your telegram received. The Ftrambiers hospital is in France, and is purely for French repatries, that is to say, those ivL ) have been driven out of their conn try by the enemy occupation, and who are destitute. The N.Z. Government has agreed to establish part oi the hospital and maintain it for two years. 'Hie Lady Liverpool organisations are providing clothing for iho women and children. The object is a thoroughly good one, and I rocomtnend it.- J. ALLEN." It was decided that, the. (natter ol donations bo held over. From Girls' Concert Branch of the Auckland Navy League .stating thai they had decided to give a concert in Palmerslon early in the New Year in aid of Navy Rebel' Fund, and asking the Society to aid the effort.—The Chairman said that he had replied o the letter stating that all possible help would be given. Prom Hawke's Bay War Relief Association re loans to soldiers settlers. \ .stating that the following resolution was passed by the executive: ''That in view of the extra loan of £250 making a total of £750, advanced by the Government to soldier Crown tenants, and also ol the attitude of Patriotic Societies throughout New Zealand, this Association discontinues making further loans to soldiers taking up Crown lands."—Received. I From the Advisory Board in regard to Prisoners of War Department, stating that the High Commissioner has formed a New Zealand Prisoners of War Department, which will take control of all work formerly performed by the Central Prisoners of War Committee, no matter whether they are civilians or to what forces they belong, All money order telegrams ami money orders in connction with purchase of food or clothing for WZ. prisoners should be forwarded to the High Commissioner for New Zealand and not to Central Prisoners of Wai Committee, as in the past. —Received. From the Minister of Defence, in re- ; plv to Society's letter, stating that the 1 30s clothing allowance to discharged isoldiers could not he increased; also ■ stating that soldiers on discharge are in possession of clothing articles to value of £l3 19s.—Received.
