SWEDISH MILITARY WRITER’S OPINION. THE GERMAN OBJECTIVES. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. Received October 24, 11.0 a.m. STOCK HOLD, Oct 23. A military writer in the Svcnska Dagbladet says: Consequent upon the recent German successes at Riga, the question of attempting to force the Sound and bolts by the Entente is being seriously considered. Judging by recent observations, it may be assumed that Germany is making a special effort. To deal with such an attempt, a record number of destroyers and submarinemust be stationed at Oresund. PETROGRAD, Oct. 22. The immediate German objectives are Verder and Hapsal, whence there is a comparatively easy advance upon Revel, aided by the railway and good roads. GERMANS REPULSED. Received October 24, 12.55 p.rn. LONDON, Oct. 23. A wireless Russian official message says: Our detachments in several sectors of the Riga region occupied the first line of trencher, which the enemy abandoned. Enemy destroyers shelled the coast six miles northwards of Werdor, and unsuccessfully attempted to land forces.
