GENERAL HAIG’S REPORT.
ENEMY AERODROMES BOMBED. Auatrslian-Now Zealand Cable Assooistion. Reoeived October 23, 8.45 a.in. WASHINGTON. Oct. 22. General Sir Douglas Haig reports that early this morning lie- carried out local attacks astride the Ypres-Smadon railway. The French co-operated on our left. Progress is reported as satisfactory. Admiralty naval aircraft yesterday afternoon bombed Vlisseghem and llouttarc aerodromes. The bombs appeared to burst iccuratoly. Enemy aircraft attacked om jombers. All of ours returned. Five of mr scouts,■ during reconnaissance patrols, mgaged twenty hostile scouts, destroyed wo, and drove down two others. One. of mr pilots js missing. HAIG KEEPS THE ENEMY BUSY. rWENTY-FIVE AIRCRAFT* DOWNED. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. LONDON, Oct. 21. Sir Douglas Haig reports.:—The Irish regiments made a successful raid north-east of Croisolles. There is great reciprocal artillery activity, and despite the mist, there is extensive aerial work being done. Today our 'planes bombed a foundry and railway junction north-west of Snarbrucken, causing tires. Enemy scouts attacked our bombing squadron, and four of them were brought down. On Saturday bombs wore dropped on aerodromes at ('outrode, Roulei • station, Corternarck. and various billets and hutments. At Routers a bomb destroy- | ed a grounded machine, and a second fell through the centre of a hangar. Meanwhile our scouts operating in the neighbourhood brought down seven of the enemy's machines. A ton of bombs was dropped on the Ingleminste aerodrome and railway station, also on aerodrome« at Courtrai, where a direct hit was obtained on a machine endeavouring to leave the ground. During the day thirteen enemy machines were brought down.
