! (FflOK Ode PABLIAitENTAEr HfPOBTEE.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 19. .Mr Brown (Napier) asked the I’rinio Minister: (I) If wool brokers do the valuing, how is it that some twentyfive men, most of whom are of military ago, are retained and drawing from 01 ()()0 to £3OOO a year in expenses ? (2) Is it a fact that certain wool .scourers are employed valuing wool and hides and drawing £BOO a. year and expenses, and at the same time conducting large scouring works, while others equally competent are unable to obtain employment? The Bight Hon. Mr Massey (Prime Minister) replied: The valuers employed by wool brokers only value wool in the interests of growers. The Imperial Government has appointed other valuers with special Bradford experience to protect its interests. Some of the- valuers appointed by the Imperial Government arc of military age, but, being citizens of the United Kingdom and only temporarily resident in New Zealand, arc not registered as reservists. Tile Government is not aware that any wool scourer is employed valuing wool and hides and receiving £BOO per annum and expenses, and at the same time conducting large scouring works.
