BUTTER NEGOTIATIONS.
IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT PREPARED TO PAY MORE. For some weeks the 'Prime Minister has been acting as intermediary between the New Zealand butter producers and the Food Controller in Britain in the matter of the purchase of the New Zealand output in tlio present summer by the British authorities. The first price offered by file Imperial Government lor New Zealand butter was lues per cwt., but this price the producers here, rejected as being too low. It is understood that the negotiations have not been broken off, that the Imperial Government is prepared to pay a little more, and* that the producers are inclined to accept the amended offer. The second offer of the Imperial Government is about 157s per cwt. , No finality has, however, been reached in the matter. The representatives of dairy factories in the North Island met the Premier on Thursday last, when they stated the amount they were prepared to accept. Further cablegrams have passed between the Prime Minister and the Imperial Government, and the 'amended offeris no doubt the result of these negotiations.
