SHORTAGE 01' CARBIDE. SUPPLIES ALMOST UNPROCURABLE. Hundreds of suburban and country storekeepers and householders are experiencing groatdiilioulty in securing supplies of carbide to keep their acetylene gas plants going, and the small quantities available are sold at a price that makes the running cost prohibitive up to £lO being asked for 2cwt drums of carbide. Acetylene gas was expensive to use in pie war times, when carbide sold at £2 5s per drum, and the present high price has forced many people to CO back to kerosene lamps lor houselighting. .. ~ The most fortunate people in New Zealand, so fur as lighting is concerned, arc those who are using the famous Wizard Lighting Svstem." They are not bothered by gas or'coal strikes, and the cost ot running a "Wizard" plant is so low that the savings soon pay for the initial cast. When carbide was sold at £2 5s per drum, acetylene gtts was about four times as expensive to use as "Wizard ' gas, and now the running cost cannot be compared. _ Nearly three thousand "Wizard" Lighting Systems have already been sold in New Zealand, over a hundred of which are fitted in Wellington suburban homes, and the demand lias been so great that the agents have, been unable to obtain supplies last enough, in spite of the fact that over 600 compete "Wizard" Lighting Systems have been fitted during the past three months. The "Wizzurd" is superior to all other hollow wire lighting systems, in that it light* with an ordinary wax match, has an automatic needle to clean the jet, and the lamps are fly and moth-proof. Some people have boon*induced to purchase lamps which require a torch dipped in methylated spirit to start them going. The torch must be hung on the generator for a minute before turning the light on; if the spirit bottle is empty, the house must rema.in in darkness. Compare this antiquated method with the up-to-date "Wizard" Matchlit Lamps: just apply the- flame of an ordinary wax match, and the flame is alight in a few seconds. During the past week, Messrs Early Bros., the New Zealand agents for the "Wizard" Light, have filed three patents covering improvements in their system, and will shortly be able to fit any "Wizard" plant with ga s irons, gas fires, bath calipliants, or hot water systems, gas rings, gas stoves, and ovens, etc.—in fact, the "Wizard" is the only plant that can be fitted with all these important features. Country residents should write, and suburban residents call on Early Bros., 187 Featherston street, Wellington, and see the Wizard light before being persuaded that some other li<rht is "just as good !" Over 400_ "Wizard" Lighting Svstems are due to arrive by the incoming 'Frisco boat, so interested people should write at once and make sure of a plant. Complete plants from £ls upwards.
