NEW ZEALAND TROOPS.

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. A memorandum placed before the House to-day by Sir J as. Allen states that the claim by the Imperial Government for the'maintenance of New Zealand troops in France and Egypt is made up on a per capita basis of five shillings per man per day plus the cost of gun and howitzer ammunition used. Rations, forage, fuel, clothing, equipment, drugs and stationery account for 3s 6d per man daily; small arms and ammunition, bombs and trench mortar ammunition for 8d per man; upkeep of arms, artillery material, and vehicles 7d per man; transport and labour establishments, 3d per man. The gun and howitzer ammunition is reckoned at a daily rate per head on a quarterly basis. The rates so far to hand are as follows: —June quarter, 1916, 2s sd; September quarter, 1916, 7s lid; December quarter; 1916, 4s 9d. This year's rates will be higher air services, works services, bridges and engineering materials are paid for by the Imperial Government. The High Commissioner has advised by cable that owing to the increase in the strength of the New Zealand forces the Imperial Government had niven a revised estimated liability of £6oO,(X)0 per month from April Ist, 1917, to September 30th, 1917 (summer months), and £450,000 per month from October Ist, 1917, to March 31st, 1918 (winter months). Tho War' Oflico estimates in addition that £'130,000 per month is required for advances to paymasters in the field and for miscellaneous charges over and above the per capita rate.
