TOKOMARU.

Ono of tlio most successful dances ever held in this district took place at the Public Uall on Friday, where a large gathering niet on the occasion of a send-off social to Privates T. Stokes and A. Dalzell. Hie largo number of folks who came fr ol * l Linton, Shannon, and Palmerston North speaks well for the popularity and esteem accorded to this district. An efficient M.C. has a lot to do with these functions, so that everything will go with a swing, and Mr Perry ahlv discharged tins duty. Mr 13. F. Spencer officiated at the piano, and Mr H. Hook (violin) assisted later m the evening. Miss Evil Farr and Miss U- Kelly supplied the music for the extras. _ A plentiful supply of edibles were provided for the supper, which was nicely laid out iii the room adjoining. Mr fl. Stewart, on behalf of the residents, .presented Privates Stokes and Dalzell with a fountain pen, and in doing so referred to their glorious opportunity of upholding the honour of the British Empire, stating that he was confident the recipients would a good account of themselves. Private 1. Stokes suitably responded to the kind words expressed, and for the presentation which would serve to remind them of the many pleasant days spent here. Dancing was kept up until early morning, and the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A few words of praise must be accorded to the residents here for the spirit they have always displayed to those local boys who have gone to the front, as on every occasion some public demonstration has been made, which has helped to cement the bond of friendship besides demonstrate their loyalty a fitting manner.
