MANAWATU TROTTING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting, held last evening, Was well attended, and the president, Mi P F. O'Connor, presided. The report stated that the e>; periment of holding the trotting meeting on a Saturday did not prove at all satisfactory. Whittle nominations were numerous, and In class of horses good, the attendance of the public was meagre, and speculation on the lota'listitor more than disappointing. For our last trotting meeting it was arrange.! that it- should follow the Manawatu Racing Club's autumn fixture, and this^ turned oin a most, excellent arrangement. The attendance was gratifvinglv large, and ..peculation above tho estimate of the most optimistic, with the result th.it a substantial prod was made, as will be gathered from the accompanying balance-sheet. Nor was tin financial result the most gratifying feature of the gathering. The i rotting throughout was of a high order, whilst the stipendiary steward reported that tho management of the meeting could 1 not well have been bel n.red. Thus the sport and the club w r. raised in public estimation, and the prospects for the future are extremely bright.
